How it Works
Off-grid systems are not connected to the electricity grid. Such installations
may be at a remote location or the owner simply wants complete independence
from the public power supply. The most common application of stand-alone
electrical systems is to power individual residences. The power generated
through solar panels and/or wind generators is directed into the home,
used in running the household, or stored in batteries to be used later.
With no power grid to draw from when wind or solar generation is insufficient,
off-grid systems often rely on a "hybrid system". Hybrid
systems involve combining wind or solar with a back-up diesel generator. |
